The challenge

An ageing system holding the business back.

[Client name] relied on a [X]-year-old C++ application to process every order. Only one supplier understood it, and each change carried real risk. [Placeholder]

Processing runs were slowing as volumes grew, and the platform could not integrate with the new ERP. [Placeholder]

Our approach

Modernise without stopping the business.

We agreed a staged plan that kept the existing system running throughout.

  1. Audit and stabiliseWe documented the codebase, added automated tests around critical paths and fixed the highest-risk defects.
  2. Wrap in an APIA new service layer exposed the engine safely, so other systems could use it without touching legacy code.
  3. Replace in stagesComponents were rebuilt in modern C++ and .NET one at a time, each released behind a switch with rollback.
  4. Hand over and supportFull documentation, training and a support agreement with defined response times.

The outcome

Faster, safer and ready to grow.

  • [40%]

    faster order processing

  • [0]

    hours of unplanned downtime

  • [X]

    systems now integrated

Technology

What we used

  • C++17
  • .NET 8
  • REST API
  • SQL Server
  • Azure
  • GitHub Actions

Technology list is an example — update per project.
